I don’t often post legitimate medical breakthroughs, but this is big enough to warrant a mention. Scientists at several hospitals have been working together to pinpoint the gene that causes breast cancer, and it looks like they’ve found the culprit. They have been able (in the lab, at least) to not only halt the spread of the cancer, but also to turn cancerous cells into normal, healthy cells. It is anybody’s guess how long it will take to turn this information into a safe treatment, but one will surely be forthcoming.
Nearly one in eight women develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. This discovery is a really big deal. (via Digg)
