Kutiman’s ThruYou project is the god damned awsomest thing I’ve seen on Youtube in a long time.  I love mashups, and this is one of the most creative and technically complex mashup projects I’ve ever seen.  The fact that the songs he crates are actually really good is a bonus.  If you don’t think sampling is an art, then this should change your mind.   (via BoingBoing)

This fan-made trailer for a live action Thundercats movie (which may or may not actually be in the works, though certainly not with this cast) is pretty damn impressive.  Not so much for making the movie look like anything but a cheesefest (inevitable), but for the fact that the creator was technically able to pull it off at all.  Creating a coherent trailer using clips from so many completely unrelated movies, synching the lips and adding the makeup couldn’t have been easy.  It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad either.  (via I Watch Stuff)

Bike Hero

I’m not 100% convinced that there were no editing tricks used in the making of this video, but it’s fucking epic either way.  (via Digg)

Batman vs. Batman

Top notch editing, but I’m a little disapointed that they didn’t get Adam West in there somewhere.  (via Cracked.com)

This mashup of the films of Wes Anderson is just one of many created by video artist Paul Proulx.  Certain film directors have an unmistakeable style, and Proulx’s mashups manage to capture that style exactly.  They’re too long to be trailers, to good to be music videos, but they’re just right for distilling the essence of what makes a Wes Anderson movie a Wes Anderson movie or a Tim Burton movie a Tim Burton movie.  You can read an interesting interview with the guy on Always Watching, as well as see some of his other mashups featuring the films of Martin Scorcese, David Lynch, and the Cohen brothers, among others.

I’d be really interested to see what he could do with the films of Terry Gilliam.  (via Neatorama)

This heaping helping of awesome comes from some sort of Japanese variety show.  They got a bunch of Japanese actors to re-create the 1985 collaborative hit “We Are The World”, complete with frighteningly accurate makup.  I could watch this over and over.  (via Boingboing)

Hi, I’m Iron Man…and I’m Batman

I just saw he new Iron Man movie last night, and the more I think about it the more I realize it’s probably my favorite superhero movie ever.  I’m not generally a fan of superhero movies, Iron Man’s main character (and even supporting characters) are so likeable, and the action sequences are done so well, that it’s impossible not to enjoy the movie.  I think this “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” spoof accurately demonstrates why I like Iron Man so much more than his peers.  Of all the other super heros, he’s the only one who doesn’t waste half the movie crying about how hard it is to  be a superhuman crime fighter.  He just gets shit done.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Gwyneth Paltrow is adorable as a redhead.  (via Digg)
