In an article that somehow does not contain the words “kook”, “loony” or “wackadoo”, ever reliable and not-at-all-biased Fox News reports that some people are afraid of a pink Ouija board. Seriously. In 2010, there are still people who think there are evil spirits trying to attack us through board games.
Everybody knows the evil spirits attack us through popular music and dancing. That’s just science. (via Boingboing)
This lovely infographic from Susanna Hertrich’s Reality Checking Device illustrates the nearly-perfect inverse relationship between how dangerous something is, and how big a fuss the media makes about it. Gotta love that “infotainment”. (via Information is Beautiful)
Yesterday, NYT reporter David Barstow won a Pulitzer prize for his investigation into the “independant military analysts” working for every major TV network, and how they have all been receiving orders from the pentagon to push misleading and illegal propaganda supporting the Iraq war. This should be the biggest story in the country today, but not one network has even mentioned the award or the article that won it.
I don’t watch television news because it is biased. Left or right, all networks are biased towards increasing ratings and not making themselves look bad, even when they’ve clearly fucked up. Read this article and keep it in mind the next time you watch the news, because chances are you’re not getting the whole story. (via Digg)
I have no idea how many takes the reporter went through before he could say “We are holding jesus ransom until you clean up the poopie from your wieners” without laughing, but I’m betting it was a lot. I can absolutely see this guy, sitting in a sound booth for hours trying to get through the story. (via Boingboing)
Fox News catches a ton of shit for being pretty much the polar oppisite of responsible journalism, but they’re hardly the only guilty party. Gawker.com (which pretty much lives for this sort of thing) has collected the most absurd front-page headlines from CNN.com from the last few years. OK, sometimes it’s just a slow news day, but have some self respect. (via Digg)
These are the things that amuse me. I am easily amused.
